बृहस्पति देव की आरती - अर्थ (Meaning in Hindi)

Spiritual Significance & Guru-Bhakti of the Aarti

The aarti dedicated to  Brihaspati Dev (often referred to as “Dev Guru”) emphasises the intertwined relationship between guru-bhakti and cosmic order. In the Vedic-Hindu tradition, Brihaspati is not merely a deity of a planet, but a teacher of gods, the embodiment of knowledge, wisdom and virtuous action. When one recites “brihaspati dev ki aarti” or “brihaspativar ki aarti” with sincerity, one symbolically surrenders ego, ignorance and attachment at the feet of the guru-principle.

The verse “Tan, Man, Dhan Arpan Kar, Jo Jan Sharan Pade” highlights that devotion is not only external ritual, it is offering body, mind and wealth in full faith. The guru-deity responds by revealing His presence, standing at the threshold of our inner door. Further, the line “Charanamrit Nij Nirmal, Sab Patak Harta” affirms that through his pure feet-nectar, sins are cleansed and impurities removed.

Thus reciting “Brihaspati dev aarti” becomes a living spiritual practice: one enters the temple of the self, lights the lamp of awareness, and honours the guiding principle of wisdom. The rhythmic refrain “Om Jai Brihaspati Deva” echoes not just words but devotion, reinforcing that by aligning with the guru-principle we align with truth, Dharma and the compassionate teacher within.

Benefits, Timings & Method: How to Perform Brihaspati Dev Ki Aarti

Performing the “brihaspati bhagwan ki aarti” or “brihaspati dev ji ki aarti” is considered highly auspicious, particularly on Thursday (Guruwar / Brihaspativar), because this day is associated with the planet-guru Brihaspati in Vedic astrology and ritual tradition.

Benefits:

  • Reciting “aarti brihaspati dev ki” regularly helps enhance intellect, wisdom, and clarity because Brihaspati rules knowledge and virtuous conduct.

  • It is believed to pacify the influence of the Brihaspati-graha (planet) and thus remove obstacles related to education, career, moderation, excessive attachment, and planetary afflictions.

  • It brings confidence, guidance, and a sense of purpose. The line “Sakal Manorath Dayak, Sab Sanshay Haro” refers to granting all desires and removing doubts.

  • Devotees report benefits such as relief from worry, improved relationships, success in undertakings and spiritual uplift.

Method & Timing:

  • The most ideal time is Thursday morning or evening, especially during the hours of the planet Guru (around 2-6 pm in some routines) though evening after sunset is common.

  • Wear yellow or saffron/ light dress (as the colour yellow is traditionally linked with Brihaspati).

  • Prepare a clean altar with an image/representation of Brihaspati Dev, light a ghee lamp, offer yellow flowers, peeled banana (kadali fruit) and other simple sweets (meva). The line in the aarti itself mentions "Chhin Chhin Bhog Lagaon, Kadali Phal Meva".

  • Recite with full attention the “Brihaspati Aarti” (lyrics above). After the recitation, offer the prasad to family, reflect on the guru principle within yourself. Maintain silence for a few moments, absorbing the energy.

  • Maintaining a sattvic diet (avoiding garlic, onion, non-vegetarian) on the day can deepen the effect.

  • Consistency is key: weekly ritual on Thursday builds momentum of subtle change, clarity of mind, reduction of doubt, stronger purpose.

In this way, “brihaspati dev bhagwan ki aarti” is not merely a song but a ritual tool for transformation. When performed with sincerity and regularity, it becomes a living bridge between cosmic guidance and personal growth.
